Provocative comedienne Any Schumer has been making waves with her controversial comments, and amazing weight loss, lately. Amy has been calling out everyone from Khloe Kardashian to Taylor Swift as well as responding to critics claims that her weight loss efforts were not enough to make her an object of desire.
The Fat Wars
During a 2015 stint where she hosted SNL, Amy took aim at the Kardashians. During her monologue she said the following . . .
We have to be a role model for these little girls, because who do they have? All they have really is the Kardashians. Is that a great message really for little girls? A whole family of women who take faces they were born with as a light suggestion. We used to have Khloe. Khloe was ours, right? Whenever there’s a group of women, you identify with one of them . . . but then Khloe , she lost half her body weight. She lost a Kendall!
Amy’s message was that you don’t have to conform to society’s mold of what your body should have to look like. However, it didn’t go down to well with the Kardashian klan. Regardless, Amie has always been her own, woman. And when it comes to her body image, she is not going to be told what to look by – not even by movie critics.
Amy lost an impressive amount of weight for her 2015 flick Trainwreck. Still, it wasn’t enough for some. One critic claimed that Amy was too chubby and unattractive to plat a romantic lead. He stated that Amie’s wide facial features reminded him of a ‘blond Lou Costello’. He went on to say . . .
She’s obviously sharp and clever and funny as far as the woe-is-me, self-deprecating thing goes, but there’s no way she’d be an object of heated romantic interest in the real world.
Amy responded by tweeting a picture of herself in nothing but underwear with the caption . . .
I am a size [six] and have no plans of changing. This is it. Stay on or get off. Kisses!
The truth is that Amy looks great in Trainwreck. She has worked hard to get on top of her weight issues and is feeling very comfortable with where she is at right now.
Body Image Insecurities
Amy recently revealed that she has struggled with her weight her whole life. The 34 year old actress appeared on the Today show with Maria Shriver. Referring to her insecurities about being in the public eye, she said that some nights she just didn’t even want to go on stage because she couldn’t find an outfit she looked good in. She has felt conscious of her weight since she was a pre-teen. Choosing the life of a stand-up comic was always going to be a huge challenge for her. Amy told Shriver . . .
It’s been a struggle for me my whole life, especially just being in the entertainment industry, standing on a stage in front of people. I can’t perform my best or be confident if I’m not sure if I’m pulling at something. Sometimes I would just want to throw in the towel and say, ‘I’m not going to do stand-up tonight.’
The Trainwreck Transformation
When she signed up for her first big screen appearance in early 2015, Amy was pretty excited. Trainwreck is a semi-biographical tour through some of her less than successful dating experiences. When movie execs gently suggested that she could stand to lose some weight for her big screen debut, Amy was non-plussed. She had planned to let wardrobe make her look slim. Still, she was no means against the idea.
The producer of the movie signed Amy up with a personal trainer – the same guy who had whipped Megan Fox and the Hemsworth brothers into smoking condition. On the first meeting, Amy recalled that he spent some time sizing her up as if she were a sympathy inducing burn victim. Amie assumed that he was assessing the damage.
The No Food Diet
When Amy asked her new trainer what was the secret to staying slim that so many Hollywood types had obviously discovered, she was told that they basically don’t eat. They start their day with a green smoothie, which was all the rage in Tinsel Town. After that it would be very light meals at lunch and dinner time. If they felt hungry in the meantime, they would drink water. It was a prospect that didn’t exactly appeal to Amy. However, being the consummate professional that she is, she was determined to give it a shot.
For six weeks, Amy followed the strict diet that her trainer laid out for her. She’d have a smoothie in the morning, fortified with such nutrient rich goodies as spinach and kale. Then she’d typically have a tuna cracker lunch or a Caesar salad. For dinner she would have a fist sized piece of lean protein, which typically consisted of chicken or fish. A side dish of cruciferous vegetables would accompany it.
Here’s a typical smoothie that Amy would take to get her day off to an energetic start:
- 2 slices avocado
- 2 oz. nonfat cottage cheese
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 75 oz. water
- colored coconut flakes
- Peel the avocado carefully, remove the pit and out the flesh in the blender.
- Add the non-fat cottage cheese, coconut oil and the water.
- Stir the ingredients in the blender.
- Top with some colored coconut flakes.
The Exercise Prescription
When it came to working out, Amy trained alongside her producer appointed personal trainer with a plyometrics routine that had her jumping, puffing and lifting three times per week on alternate days. The idea was to get in, hit her cardiovascular system hard to burn maximum calories and then get out, all within about 35 minutes.
Amy’s workouts changed up constantly in order to keep her body guessing. Here’s a typical Plyo circuit that she would complete three times:
- Single leg lateral jumps
- Frog hops
- Long jump with hop
- Box jump and rebound
- Lateral jumps with hop
- Kangaroo jumps
These workouts were very intense and they churned through a lot of calories. Amy hated them. But they sure helped her to reshape her body.
The New Look Amy
Amy lost weight and managed to reshape her body. The producers were happy and she looked great in Trainwreck. Yet, according to the never conventional star, she’d be just as happy to put the weight back on. Which just goes to prove that Amie is a lady who is very comfortable in her skin.
