Biggest Loser: Episode 1
So did y'all watch the Biggest Loser? What'd you think? Was your state represented? Mine's wasn't ![]()
What was the funniest moment? Sweetest moment? Did you miss Jillian? Did you tear up? But what I really want to know is, who'd you want to smack upside the head? ![]()
Below the fold I crunch the numbers of Amy from Maryland who shed 16lbs in one week.
Starting weight: 260lbs
Current weight: 244lb
Lbs lost: 16
Caloric burn to net a 16lb loss: 56,000 for the week or 8,000 calories a day
At 260lbs, she needs 2333 calories to maintain her weight if she is sedentary. Bob put his ladies on a 1200-1500 calorie diet, creating a 1100 daily deficit via eats alone. For the amount of exercising they was doing, she actually needs 3350 calories per day to maintain her weight. Her daily deficit is now 2100 calories.
I am going out on a limb and say they workout intensely 4 hours a day. Not including misc exercise they get in, I'm talking gym time. I'm guessing Bob has them in first thing in the AM for @ least an hour. Probably around lunch time for another hour and as we saw post challenge, he put them back in the gym for cardio before dinner.
@ her size, she can burn 5000 calories in those 4 hours if she just walked or jogged. He had them doing the precor and intense cardio machines, plus lots of weights and jumping. Easily she burned 6000 calories.
6000 burned via exercise + 2100 daily deficit ='s doing the above for 7 days @ her 260lb weight is how she shed 16lbs in one week.

Woah, that's a lot of calories! I can barely have a deficit of 250 a day....man, am I lazy
New York is represented, however by a dude that I am not fond of as of yet..... we'll see as time goes.
Shelley, the toss up for me was w/top model. Luckily top model repeats on Sundays *whew* Oh and I just got into CFB now that I have direct teevee..
..so I caught Tuesday's show, where Angie came around I guess, read up on her drama @ a few forums. And I see they have 2 shows left, so this Sunday they are doing a marathon...YaY!
For realism and practicality, CFC hands down is what I like, TBL is like losing weight, on speed...
...they kept 14, I did a better recap over @ my site, and the other 36 go it alone @ home, but w/tools and books and videos. Of the 36 whoever loses the most comes back to the ranch.
Alanna - who are you telling, I crunched the numbers for losing 2lbs a week and it wasn't pretty...
...but I think putting it in black and white, like I'm reading TBL comments and one person is gawking @ how much weight they lost. Saying a woman lost 16lbs in one week seems fantastical, but looking @ the sweat behind it, well, she gets major props...
brb...
back..
..had to go see who NY was...can't say he made an impression on me just yet. But I did think Bob picked him b/c he was one of the largest dudes, hence his losses will come fast and furious. That Bob is such a sneak.
I love both shows. I am really motivated by them both. I watch them and then tell myself if they can do it, so can I. I just may be a little slower doing it, that's all. I didn't miss Jillian. As long as Bob is there, i am good. I love Bob. I don't really have any favorite people there yet. I need a little more time. I did cheer on the team that won that week though.
I agree with TC. I haven't found anyone to cheer for, so I found the show boring. I know this takes time, but time I don't have. I've never watched TBL before, so I don't even have a connection with the trainers. I probably will not tune in again until season finale.
I was, however, moved by what some of the contestants said. I hope they all lose the weight and become happy.
Of the reality show genre, I am liking Project Runway on Bravo. I hope Micheal wins.

I didn't watch the Biggest Loser...since it is up against Dancing With The Stars...and I am seriously addicted to that show. It makes me wanna run out and take a dancing class.
I do watch Celebrity Fit Club though...and when I watched both I liked CFB so much more than TBL...it just seemed like much more attainable and real weight loss that they were showing...instead of people losing 15-20 lbs a week.
How did the show go? How did they deal with having 50 people?
