Nicole Polizzi Weight Loss Transformation (Snooki)

Jersey Shore reality Star Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi looks amazing after dropping 50 pounds in six months. The former hard drinking party girl has become the model of sobriety and health since becoming a mom in 2012.

Snooki recently opened up about how she achieved her amazing lifestyle turn-around . . .

I basically just got my ass to the gym and ate healthy.

It’s a simple formula but one that has paid off handsomely for the Jersey Shore reality star. The biggest turn-around, however, came with he decision to stop drinking.

The key to losing the weight was giving up the empty calories that are in all those alcoholic beverages. They really add up and in one night you can end up consuming up to 2,000 calories in just tasty drinks. Not to mention, after drinking with your girls all you want to do is go home and eat tons of junk food! So if you give up the alcohol you’ll begin to see changes immediately!!!

The Kitchen Make-Over

nicole 4During her first pregnancy in 2012, Nicole ate a lot of junk food. But, the minute she gave birth, a change came over her. From that point on, she resolved to cut the empty calories from her life. The first step in making that goal a reality was to rid her home of any foods that contained excessive amounts of sugar, processed carbohydrates and toxic chemicals.

In addition to getting rid of the obvious culprits, like donuts and ice-cream, Nicole also decided to cut way back on her consumption of wheat.  She did her research and discovered some fascinating things about wheat. Those facts overturned her belief in the traditional food pyramid, which place wheat as the basis of a healthy diet.

The Truth About Grain

Nicole found out that grains are not what they used to be. With the advent of the industrial revolution they’ve been processed, stripped and reconstituted beyond recognition. Milling, beaching and refining grains decreases their nutritional value while increasing their calorie density. As a result, these new “non-grain” grains are causing a lot of trouble for people’s bodies.

Having found for many years that grains were hard to digest, Nicole now found out why. They make it difficult for your digestive system to absorb nutrients from other foods. Grains may even lead to a condition known as leaky gut where the grains break through the walls of the intestine.

Grains, as Snooki had found out, will also make you fat. They contain a whole lot of sugar and refined carbohydrates that will spike up your blood sugar and insulin levels. This is not a good thing. The insulin quickly clears the sugar from the bloodstream. This, in turn, leads to a blood sugar dip. This is known as hypoglycemia. It is characterised by low energy, shakiness, weakness, mood swings and hunger.

Nicole found that when her diet was built around wheat, she was constantly hungry? She now knows that hypoglycemia  was leading her back to more sugar, perpetuating a cycle of energy highs and lows, interspersed by more shovel-fulls of sugar.

Nicole replaced grains with more vegetables, fruits and lean proteins. Rather than having a burger in a wheat bun, she would wrap it in lettuce. Instead of a sugar filled bowl of cereal, sh’ed have low fat yogurt with fruit. These simple changes made a huge difference to her sugar consumption.

The combination of massively reduced alcohol consumption, the elimination of processed foods and the cutting out of wheat from her diet allowed Nicole to lose an average of two pounds of body fat each and every week.

                                  Snooki Works Out


A few weeks after giving birth to Lozenzo in August, 2012, Nicole began working out with personal trainer Anthony Michael. She really threw herself into her training, with 5 weight training sessions each week.

Before teaming up with Anthony, Snooki had steered clear of weight training, fearing that it would make her too bulky. Her trainer explained that, properly done, strength training with weights would actually help to create a shapely, toned, fat free body. It would put her in charge to sculpt her figure the way that she desired. She came on board and hasn’t looked back.

Here’s a sample of the exact routines that Nicole and Anthony used to achieve her dramatic transformation:

Monday Legs Workout

Squats – 4 sets starting with just the bar and going up to 40 pounds. Each set consists of 8 reps.

Leg Extensions – 4 sets of 12 reps (25 pounds).

Lunges – 3 sets of 12 reps on each leg (holding 10 pound dumbbells in each hand).

Glute Bridge – 3 sets of 12 reps.

Lying Leg Curl – 3 sets of 12 reps (20 pounds).

Box Jumps – 3 sets of 1 minute box jumps with 1 minute rest between each set.

Standing Calf Raises – 4 sets of 15 reps (100 pounds).

Nicole moves quite rapidly through her workout. She only allows herself a minute’s rest between sets. She makes sure to stay well hydrated during her session, sipping on water throughout. Before her workout, she’ll have a banana for energy. Within twenty minutes of completing her workout, she’ll take a post workout protein drink that contains whey isolate protein, branch chain amino acids, creatine and glutamine.

The Cardio Sessions

nicole 2In addition to her weights workouts, which take place mid morning between Monday and Friday, Nicole also does cardio three to four times per week. She enjoys taking spin cycle classes at her local gym once per week. This is an extremely effective fat burner that allows her to churn through about 700 calories per session.

The Dancing With the Stars alumni also loves to dance as exercise. She recently commented . . .

Dancing is an amazing workout. It keeps my legs and everything else well toned. Im a size 0 and damn proud of it!

Nicole also enjoys jogging. She can often be seen running around her local neighborhood with hubby Jionni LaValle. Typically she’ll run two to three times per week, for 30-40 minutes.

Often at the gym, the reality star will also finish off her weights session by hopping on the Stairmaster or the treadmill. Rather than doing the conventional long, slow workout, she’ll do high intensity interval training. This involves short intense bursts of fast work followed by even shorter rest periods.
