Ok, I just realized something. If someone is in the ring, fitroll and directory, that's 3 links back and maybe overkill. So I'll reword the directory text and approval process to read, a link back in any of the 3 formats is acceptable. Linking back with the unique url was really optional, all it does is rank peeps on the popular site list, but starting today a simple link back to the directory or blog is fine and dandy.

I didn't work on any of my ongoing to do things, I actually didn't plan to get online @ all, but ended up revising the wording on the directory side. After having 6 sites still sitting in the queue after 7 days of not adding a link back, I've removed the add a link page and replaced it w/a landing page explaining that link backs are mandatory. If people agree and still want to apply, they can click onto the add a link page from there.
This *should* cut down on me having to email mail people and constantly checking their sites for links. i'll let this run for about a month and see if it goes. By March, I'm going to do a quarterly check on all directory links, weeding out dead, discontinued or off topic sites and going thru all the earlier sites that haven't linked back and emailing them asknig for them to do so. I'll give them till the next quarter, 3 months, to do so and if they haven't I'm removing them too.
Not to be harsh but linking back is where it's at. Ok lame, but I'm tired.
To add in Feb news, linking back, webring & fitroll

took tagboard down today, naturally it got spammed shortly before i removed it. the rb should be up in it's place sometime this week, still have to download, install and test. even that may not stay long, it may eat up bandwidth, but i'll see how it goes for a month or so.
as for my last to do list: everything is done! woot!

fulfilling a long ago request, finally added feed to Google Reader. Imported old site technical news to this blog, deleted them from main blog. Was going to delete site news on that side altogether, but some of the news was relevant, things like the directory going down is better said on the main page than here.
to do, remove tagboard, put beakers on comments, set up weekly check in category

Today, I launched the site news section to take away the non related topics from the main section of the site. This area of the blog is really for me to keep track of all the site changes.
Yesterday I removed the sweepstakes graphic, launched the fitroll, webring and site poll.
Today I added moved the traffic section to the end of the page, when the counters went down the graphics were gone and broke the layout on the right side. I'll spend the rest of today moving the old site news to this blog and fixing the template. I also made the category, monthly archives and indi archives into drop down boxes. Once I added the poll, the right started getting packed. Plus I have more things to add in coming months, may as well make room for it now.
As for the design, I wanted someting really crisp and looking for a 2 column layout, I found this stylesheet which is perfect. Going forward all site related news and changes will be logged here.

I got the notify script to work again. Sometimes it pays to put things down for a few hours and come back to it with fresh eyes. Once again, you can get notified of follow up comments so long as you use a valid email. As is my policy, your email will not be used for any other purpose, spammed or sold. You can cancel the subscription at anytime, all info is in the notification email.

Update @ 4pm, welp, the upgrade went pretty smooth. Everything seems to be working except the "notify me if someone leaves a comment" box. Figures. I spent quite a few hours troubleshooting but am going to put that to rest for now. Maybe in another month or so they'll whip up a better plugin. Unfortunately, you'll have to stop back by to see if someone replied to your comment, but the site should be bookmarked and you should be a daily visitor anyway right? Right! ;)
I'm going to be upgrading to the latest version of Movable Type as well as adding the graphics & sign up form for the January Sweepstakes. Things may appear and disappear throughout the day.
